Triathlon IS a LIFESTYLE Sport!

Triathlon is a LIFESTYLE sport.  Simply put, triathlon is a combination of activities that the majority of the population can do – whether 8 years old or 80 years old – the majority of the population can make a triathlon happen – swim, bike, run – and you are a triathlete.

There is no magic formula or even a magic race distance that brands one a “triathlete.”  In our book, putting the 3 disciplines together, putting a plan in place and making it happen, and then racing with your oldest friends and surely new friends to come, creates memories and a triathlete – and a triathlete for life.

No doubt LIFE has ebbs and flows.  Some years you will be completely enthralled with the sport, racing, specific race goals and more while other years – even though not as motivated as year’s prior or as dedicated, the flame still burns – maybe not as bright – but it is there.  In our opinion, this is one of the extraordinary aspects of the sport of triathlon.  Once a triathlete, always a triathlete, and always there to help new athletes to the sport.

At TYB, we make it a mission to live the triathlon lifestyle.  Again, some years you will see some of our coaches racing 12 races a years and the next year the race number may be 1 – but make no mistake about it – we are alive in the triathlon lifestyle – both from a personal aspect and growing the sport through TYB and various other avenues.

TYB is also excited and thrilled to be part of the NCAA Women’s Triathlon initiative with Southern Wesleyan University.  Again, creating a triathlon culture in our youth and junior athletes, exposing new athletes to the sport of triathlon, and continuing to build the lifestyle of triathlon.

Turning the Page to 2017

2017-1

Who knew Bob Seger wrote songs for triathletes?

“Here I am, On the road again…”

No one understands this more than endurance athletes.   Our world has two seasons – race season and training season.

As 2016 race season draws to a close we want to congratulate TYB athletes on a spectacular season that spanned from “Where It All Begins” on Parris Island in March to the Emerald Coast for IMFL in November and all points in between.

“Here I go playing the star again,  turn the page…”

TYB Coaching is excited to coach and prepare our family of current and new athletes for a fantastic 2017.

TYB Coaching announces that we will again hold our Triathlon 101 Clinics.   Look for upcoming details on clinics in both Upstate South Carolina and we will be announcing our first clinics in Atlanta, Georgia!

We will host a preview of the course that will be used for year number two of the highly successful Mountains to Mainstreet Half Iron Distance Triathlon in April.

Stay tuned for more on that as we await final course details from the organizers.

Additionally, TYB Coaching will hold the 4th annual IM Augusta 70.3 Preview Weekend on the weekend of August 26-27th.    Preview the course that will be raced on September 25th in the premiere North America IM70.3 event with over 3500 entrants every year.

The TYB race calendar has been updated, so pick your races and we will help you make 2017 the year that changed everything.

“There I am, upon the stage….”

As endurance athletes,  YOUR 2017 success begins today.   It starts with your thoughts and preparation NOW.   Do the heavy lifting NOW.   Be accountable NOW.   Be spectacular in 2017.  Let us help you!

Keeping it Going!

As we make our way into mid-November and the season starts to wind down, there STILL is racing happening!

Two of the Lowcountry TYB Athletes were at it this past weekend!

After going long the past few season, TYB Athlete Bernie has decided to shift the focus towards some short course racing – focusing on shorter races and speed!  Kicking off with a baseline test at the Hilton Head Bridge Run 5K this past weekend, Bernie flew going 24 and change, taking 6th Overall and finishing 1st AG!

Down the coast a bit, TYB Athlete Bubba took to MiamiMan – and because of some Achilles issues decided to do the Aquabike at the last minute.  That decision paid off as he beat his goal by 5 minutes AND qualified to race in Canada next year for Team USA.

The work continues and the fun continues!  Every day is a step in the process and every workout is another brick added on the foundation!

2017 Augusta 70.3 Starts NOW!

Earlier than ever, the crew at the Augusta 70.3 will open registration for the 2017 Augusta 70.3 tomorrow, Tuesday, October 18th at 12:00pm.

To register, proceed to the Augusta 70.3 site and click HERE

Always a great race – and a perfect race for the first time Half Ironman athlete OR the athlete looking to PR at the 70.3 Distance, Augusta 70.3 is one of the biggest races in the world – with it being the largest Half Ironman in North America.

With a typical (although not this year) Wetsuit Legal Swim, then a rolling and quick bike ride (back to the normal bike course) and a flat two loop run course through Downtown Augusta, the race sets up well for all levels of athletes – and also offers a great vantage point for your family and friends to spectate.

Over the past few years, TYB has had over 30 athletes cross the line at Augusta 70.3.  Some first time 70.3 athletes and some working hard towards their Personal Bests!  Along with the fun finishes, TYB has also hosted an Augusta 70.3 Preview Weekend in late August each of the past three years – and are looking forward to the 4th Preview Weekend in 2017!

Typically, Augusta 70.3 does not cap out in a day – or even a week.  But, if you are considering racing Augusta 70.3 in 2017, we would encourage you to sign up now and secure your spot on race day for 2017!

Time for the Dam Tri!

After the Historic Hurricane Matthew made its ways up the Atlantic Coast and through the Carolinas, the team at Set Up Events made the smart move to postpone The Dam Tri, originally scheduled last weekend, to tomorrow, Saturday, October 15th.  Always a great race and the last race in South Carolina Triathlon Series – a great way to end the year with the team at Set Up Events!

Because of the postponement of the race, the TYB Crew originally scheduled to race now shakes out a bit differently to the current race ready crew!

TYB Athletes Sandy and Jennifer both race with two things in mind – securing their overall wins in Open and Masters Open respectively – and keeping the legs open and ready to roll for next weekend at Ironman North Carolina 70.3.  TYB Athlete Frankie keeps the racing going as he does throughout the year and looks forward to a great race while TYB Athletes Ashley and Vicki open in up in their first race of this distance and first open water swim.  Finally, TYB Athlete Kimi keeps it going and looks to continue her string of podium appearances in the Aquabike – and then maybe time for some triathlon racing next year!

Enjoy the day, have fun, and race YOUR race!

It is Finally Here!

The BIG day is FINALLY here!  After signing up almost a year ago, the day has finally come!

With their minds on the prize for months and months, lots of quality training and time invested, the LONG COURSE RACE DAY IS HERE!

TYB Athletes will be throughout the Southeast and the midwest this weekend!

Going SUPER LONG at Ironman Chattanooga are TYB Athletes Kristina, Gary, Keith, Chad, Peter, Britton and Coach Mark.  Going LONG at the Augusta 70.3 are TYB Athletes Barry, Lynn, Rob, Jason, Tricia, Al, Tamy and Coach David.  Also, keeping the Long Course going is TYB Athlete Bernie racing in Oklahoma at the ITU Long Course World Championships!

You have made it through the hard part – the training, the time invested, the heat – and now is the fun part – RACE DAY!  Enjoy the day, trust your training, and RACE YOUR RACE!

Adding more Fuel to the Fire!

Triathlon is made up of three sports – the Swim, the Bike, and the Run.  Over the course the time – and with quality and defined workouts – athletes will get fitter and faster and achieve their goals.

The higher the quality of workouts – and mixed with the proper amount of rest and recovery – the more efficient, fitter, and faster the athlete will become.

For consistent workouts, it becomes about more than only the aspects of swim, bike, and run – it also becomes about proper nutrition.  Not only the everyday nutrition, but also nutrition DURING the workouts.

Because of this, TYB currently stocks a few nutritional items – Carb Boom, E-Gel, Picky Bars, and now…  Accel Gel and 2nd Surgeboth from Pacific Health Labs

What makes Accel Gel unique is that it is the only gel that contains the patented 4:1 ratio of carbs and protein and it uses a combination of three carbohydrates to maximize energy transport and uptake into muscle cells. This novel combination guaranties instant energy when needed.

With 2nd Surge, it is the first all natural energy gel specifically formulated to delay the onset of both muscle and brain fatigue. The proprietary formula of rapidly acting carbohydrates, proteins, caffeine and antioxidants are proven to:

• Increase the delivery of cortical nutrients to brain and muscle cells

• Maintain metabolic energy needs

• Inhibit the release of fatigue signals in the brain
• Reduce muscle damage, an important trigger for release of fatigue signals
• Gives you added energy when you need it most

Now in stock at the TYB Studio or shipping throughout the United States, get your Accel Gel  ($25.99 for a case of 24 gels or $1.50 per gel) and 2nd Surge ($12.99 for a case of 8 gels or $2 per gel).  Current TYB Athletes receive a 15% discount.
